Frosted Sugar cookies

Frosted Sugar Cookies

These are the best frosted sugar cookies! I looked high and low to find the perfect recipe to get the fluffy, not too sweet, perfect cookies like you can buy in a bakery. I finally found it, and I’m sharing my secret cookie recipe with you today.

You know the ones, those guilty pleasures with the frosting that matches any holiday. They are in ever store for every holiday. Yeah, THOSE cookies.

I love them! They are soft, fluffy and have great icing and sprinkles. They are not you typical sugar cookie that your Grandma made. This is the secret recipe!

The Ingredients:

Some butter, cream cheese, sugar, flour, salt and corn starch. Then some vanilla and almond extract and only one egg. Sounds pretty easy to me.

Why corn starch in cookies? That stuff goes in gravy so why in cookies? Corn starch helps bind the ingredients together to give the cookies the right consistency. And its that consistency that we are looking for in these cookies.

Making the Cookies

My favorite part! Second only to eating them. Cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar until smooth. Add in your wet ingredients and mix well. Slowly add in our dry ingredients until a stiff sough forms.

Roll out your dough and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 375 for 12-15 minutes. They will have a nice golden color to them when they are done.

Cool completely and frost with sour cream icing. Add any additional sprinkles or sugar topping you like. Do especially have fun with this part, it’s why we are making cookies to begin with!

Storing the Cookies for Later

Have you ever tried to keep frosted cookies from sticking together? They get frosting everywhere! Allow them to air dry in a cool place until the frosting hardens on the top.

They can be lightly stacked at this point. They will still stick, but not as bad. Try storing them in a cake pan that has a lid rather than a cookie jar. And only overlap them slightly, to minimize the weight on each cookie.

Variations:

What cookie recipe cant go from holiday to holiday? Not this one! Use different colors of food coloring and icing to accommodate any occasion.

Use different cookie cutters to mix and match this recipe for any holiday. Green shamrocks for St. Patrick’s day, Pink hearts for Valentine’s day, Green trees for Christmas, Orange pumpkins for Thanksgiving, it’s a versatile recipe. Change it up to suit your desires.
