Easy Street Tacos

Easy Street Tacos

Super easy street tacos that are delicious and nutritious. Who really need a Mexican restaurant to get tacos from when you can make them right at home? This recipe is so tasty and so easy you will love it as much as we do.

Tacos are a traditional Mexican food though to have been enjoyed there even before the Spanish arrived. By filling a small corn tortilla with assorted meats these treats provided nourishment for the person eating it. First brought to the US in the early 1900’s the taco has evolved into what we know it as today.

Tacos were always considered “street food” so why do we have an actual name for “street tacos”? Well, that is because the actual name has changed more than the actual food. The taco as we know it today in a crunchy shell is actually not an authentic taco. The street tacos we are making here are the real deal, as close as you can get to the first tacos eaten in Mexico.

Street Taco Preparation

Sure, you could go to a food truck, or the local corner market and pick up one of these tasty little treats. But when it comes to feeding a crowd at home, these are easy to make. They also require very little effort for something so good!

Grab that crockpot and let’s get going!

Start with a nice meaty chuck roast that has an ample amount of fat in it. Fat adds flavor to the finished product, but you don’t want so much that it will be greasy. Go ahead and place this roast into your crockpot.

Up next, you need to peel about 4-5 whole garlic cloves and toss them into the crockpot as well. Add 3-4 dried New Mexico chilies that are found at your local market as well. All that remains is a cup of beef broth and a can of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies.

Let this cook on low all day (about 7-8 hours) while you work on something else. When the meat is finished, remove it from the pot and shred it into a bowl. Prepare the remaining ingredients by dicing up some white onion and chopping some cilantro. Don’t forget the lime wedges.

To make this taco grab a tortilla, add an ample amount of your shredded meat. Top with cilantro and onions and a squirt of lime juice. So simple, yet so tasty!

Leftover Taco Filling

It does happen. Store the meat and your cilantro and onion mixture in separate containers in the refrigerator. They will be good to eat for up to 3-4 days.

Simply layer up some fresh tacos and pop them in the microwave when you want one the next day. Something that we all love here is to use those tortillas and the meat to make huevos rancheros for breakfast. That will be a post for another day!

What Goes Best With Street Tacos?

What doesn’t go good with street tacos? Try other Street food favorites like Elote or tamales or quesadillas. Hint: You can use the same meat to make some incredible beef quesadillas.

You can have them on their own or as part of a full Mexican meal. Have the beans and rice, and the chips and dip. No matter what you choose, these are the easiest street tacos you can make at home.
